OnTrack Engineering is a privately owned company founded in 1984 and headquartered in Calgary, Alberta . OnTrack Engineering began as an engineering consulting company specializing in developing solutions for project controls issues for complex architecture, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) projects.

Oil and gas, petrochemical and pipeline industries formed OnTrack’s earliest client base. The news about OnTrack’s services, solutions and value spread through word of mouth and the client base expanded to include mining and metallurgy, heavy civil infrastructure and industrial facilities.

By 1996 our clients were demanding an off-the-shelf software solution from OnTrack Engineering to provide the expert control they had been getting as a consulting service. Our clients understood the intricacies of tying large volumes of data together and the challenges facing them if they tried to create software internally, rather than buying it. This healthy instinct to stay within their core competency - managing projects - and outsource the solutions to a trusted vendor who would create, upgrade, maintain and support them, led to OnTrack Engineering taking on the challenge of migrating its clients in house software to a complete off-the-shelf solution from OnTrack.

Already equipped with proprietary programs developed to address various aspects of project management, we collaborated with other successful project management specialists and leading program designers to ensure that best practices in project management were incorporated into a fully integrated software package for client use.

In 1996, this software, then called CostTrack, was released. Because it addressed critical areas of material management and procurement as well as planning and scheduling, earned value and cost control, CostTrack was able to provide significant benefits to EPC projects – better management of materials, reduced equipment cost, more efficient use of human resources on projects, increasing productivity and reducing delays and therefore cost overruns. Because it is used by owners, engineers and contractors, there is an increase in efficiency and collaboration, hence the likelihood of claims is reduced. An audit trail is produced, making the software Sarbanes Oxley compliant.

In 2002 OnTrack Engineering began offering a web hosting service, which has grown to support hundreds of users collaborating on dozens of projects globally. Having OnTrack host the software further reduces the clients’ IT costs, and allows us to instantaneously upgrade, maintain and troubleshoot their databases.

In 2004 we moved OnTrack PM to a SQL database, and in 2006 dramatically improved our material management module. In 2007 we began offering online training at our clients’ request as well as enhanced currency capability. We continue to enhance our solutions in design, delivery and ease of use based on the evolving needs of the EPC industry.

OnTrack Engineering’s flagship product, OnTrack Project Manager, is now in its third major release. SQL based, web enabled, and available over a variety of platforms, OnTrack Project Manager provides the best of both worlds – proven and reliable yet innovative technology reflecting years of project controls experience and expertise.
